RECYCLING FIRMS COMES RUNNER-UP IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
June 28th, 2007
Teesside-based UK Wood Recycling is celebrating after coming runner-up in a national renewable energy competition.
The company, based next to the Wilton International site at Redcar, were praised by the judges at the Renewable Energy Association Awards in London last week.
Geoff Hadfield, Managing Director of UK Wood Recycling, said: “We’re delighted to have got this far. We were short-listed from more than 100 entrants and as a very new company, we feel we did very well to come runners-up.”
UK Wood Recycling (UKWR) was entered into the Renewable Energy Project of the Year category of the awards, which are run annually by the Renewable Energy Association.
The company was officially opened earlier this year by Lord Truscott, the Government’s Energy Minister. It was set up to supply 80,000 tonnes a year of biomass fuel, made from recycled wood, to the new Wilton 10 biomass boiler.
As well as the biomass fuel, UKWR will also produce a number of recycled products including equine, poultry and cattle bedding.
Wilton 10 is owned by SembCorp Utilities UK and is due to be fully commissioned this summer. It will generate around 30MW of electricity, enough to fuel 30,000 homes.
UK Wood Recycling Limited reduce the amount of wood being sent to landfill by recycling recovered wood to produce a range of products including horse, poultry and cattle bedding, equestrian surfaces and wood chip to fuel Wilton 10.
