MP VISITS NEW WOOD RECYCING SITE
RECYCLERS
Press Release - 26th September 2006
Redcar MP Vera Baird visited Teesside’s new wood recycling facility – UK Wood Recycling - on Friday (Sept 22).
The MP had a tour of the site, which is currently under construction, and heard a presentation about what the company does.
UK Wood Recycling (UKWR) will produce 80,000 tonnes of recycled wood chip a year to help fuel the new £60 million Wilton 10 Biomass Power Station, being built on the Wilton International site near Redcar.
UKWR, which is based next to the Wilton site, began collecting wood waste in July this year and already has 12,000 tonnes stacked at the site.
Geoff Hadfield, Managing Director of UKWR, said: “It was a privilege to meet Vera and show her around the site. She showed a real interest in what we are doing here and in what the future might hold for recycled wood chip as a biomass fuel.”
Construction of the UKWR site will continue over the autumn and the business is expected to be fully operational by early next year.
Construction of the Wilton 10 Power Station, owned by SembCorp Utilities UK, is also well underway. It is expected to be fully operational by mid 2007. Wilton 10 will generate 30 MW of electricity, enough to supply around 30,000 homes and businesses.
