A wood recycling firm from Redcar has marked its first birthday by giving a donation to a local children’s hospice.
UK Wood Recycling (UKWR), which is based next to the Wilton International Site, has donated £1,300 to Zoe’s Place in Normanby.
The company, which celebrated its first birthday last month (July) was set up to provide biomass fuel made from recycled wood to the SembCorp Biomass Power Station at Wilton. Workers at the site were asked what they would like to do to mark the first birthday and suggested a donation could be made to Zoe’s Place.
Gary Jones, Site Manager for UKWR, said: “The employees here were keen that we support Zoe’s Place as it’s a local cause that does tremendous work and makes a huge difference to a lot of people’s lives.”
UKWR Recycling was officially opened earlier this year by Lord Truscott, the Government’s Energy Minister. It was set up to supply 80,000 tonnes a year of biomass fuel the SembCorp Biomass Power Station.
Over the past few months it has been increasing its supply of fuel to the power station while the boiler has been undergoing its commissioning trials.
Once the power station is fully operational, UKWR will produce 1,600 tonnes of biomass fuel every week. As well as the biomass fuel, UKWR will also produce a number of recycled products including equine, poultry and cattle bedding.
The SembCorp Biomass Power Station is due to be fully operational this summer. It will generate around 30MW of electricity, enough to fuel 30,000 homes.
