Health and Safety Manager Gary Jones has branched out into a new field of work with his latest job – wood recycling.
Gary has joined newly launched company UK Wood Recycling (UKWR) at its purpose-built recycling facility at the Wilton International site in Cleveland. He is also responsible for health and safety at UKWR’s parent company Hadfield Wood Recyclers in Manchester.
Gary, whose previous health and safety work has included working in the chemical, food and animal by-product industries, is responsible for all health and safety at both sites. UKWR’s site is still under construction and is expected to be fully operational by December. Gary is also helping with staff recruitment, organising staff training and setting up that site.
Father-of-two Gary, 48 from Newton Aycliffe in County Durham, said: “It’s a fantastic job and a really interesting challenge to manage two different sites. The range of issues involved in managing health and safety on a site under construction with new employees and one that is already established can be very different but the challenge is one I am relishing and so far really enjoying.”
“I’ve worked in a variety of different industries and also have a lot of years experience in operations management which is helping me to introduce new operational systems and procedures as well as those involving health and safety.”
UKWR will produce 80,000 tonnes of recycled wood chip a year to help fuel the £60 million Wilton 10 Biomass Power Station being built on the Wilton International site.
As well as producing wood chip for the boiler, UKWR and Hadfield Wood Recyclers produce a range of recycled products including horse, cattle and poultry bedding and compost.
UK Wood Recycling Limited reduce the amount of wood being sent to landfill by recycling recovered wood to produce a range of products including horse, poultry and cattle bedding, equestrian surfaces and wood chip to fuel Wilton 10.
